Density testing measures how much material is contained within a given volume, and remains one of the quickest ways to check compound consistency. Typically expressed as density (g/cm³) or specific gravity (SG), it is measured using Archimedes' principle.

It provides insight into material composition and batch consistency – higher density indicates more filler loading such as carbon black or minerals, while lower density suggests a lighter or less filled compound. Consistent results confirm materials match expected specifications, while variation can indicate issues with mixing, formulation or processing.

It is a simple test, but it tells you a lot.
